The Broncs traveled to Southwestern Heights Friday and came away with a 52-22 victory.
At the same time, Lakin retained the prize in “the battle for the golden saddle.”
Colter Oldham had another big game, scoring three rushing touchdowns and rushing for 140 yards.
Armando Salcido scored on a 13-yard run with (2:03 left in the quarter.
The Broncs got the ball back with 24 seconds left in the quarter. On the first play, Ross Rider completed a 57-yard pass play from Maddux Beltran over the middle to give the Broncs a 14-0 lead after one quarter.
Rider scored from nine yards, and Oldham from three to give the Broncs a 30-0 lead in the second before Heights scored.
Dru Patterson completed a 26-yard scoring pass play from Beltran in the back of the end zone with 28 seconds left to put Lakin ahead 38-8 at halftime.
Oldham scored twice more, one a 31-yard run in the third and the other a 3-yard run in the fourth to put the game out of reach.
Oldham got his 140 yards on 22 carries. Salcido rushed three times for 49 yards and Rider twice for 28.
Beltran was 3-for-3 on passes for 116 yards and the two scores.
Oldham assisted on or made 14 tackles. Timmy Johnson got seven.
The Broncs out-gained the Mustangs 341 yards to 237.
All of Heights’ yards came on the ground, while Lakin had 225 yards rushing and 116 passing.
The Broncs had 17 first downs and did not turn the ball over. Heights had 10 first downs and threw one interception to Blair Jones.
The Broncs are now 4-1 and 1-0 in district play.
Lakin will host Hoisington (5-0, 1-0) Friday.
