In a battle of two unbeatens in the district, it was visiting Hoisington taking a decisive 63-15 win Friday night.
Hoisington improved to 6-0 (2-0 in district play), while the Broncs fell to 4-2 (1-1).
The Cardinals, ranked second in state in Class 2A, set the tone right away as they took the opening kickoff 85 yards for the game’s first score.
Hoisington made it 20-0 in the second quarter before Lakin got on the board when Colter Oldham punched it in from two yards out.
The Cardinals scored twice more in the half to take a 34-8 lead at halftime and increased that to 55-8 after three periods on three more touchdowns.
Dru Patterson scored Lakin’s final touchdown in the fourth quarter on a quarterback keeper for 16 yards.
Hoisington amassed 447 total yards (323 on the ground and 124 in the air) to Lakin’s 231 (180 and 51).
The Cardinals sustained their drives, converting on 8 of 9 third-down plays, while Lakin was 2 of 8.
Maddux Beltran was 3 of 8 passing for 51 yards, including a 32-yard strike to Javion Granado to set up the first score.
Ross Rider had 52 yards rushing on seven carries, while Oldham had 12 carries for 47 yards.
Jeremy Oropeza had four solo tackles, while Granado had three and assisted on four.
Lakin will host Colby Friday on senior night and then travel to Larned Oct. 20.
