Girls compete in wrestling opener

The girls varsity opened their wrestling season Saturday in Wakeeney.
Nine girls competed, with three taking medals.
Ivy Davis finished second at 135 pounds. The senior won three of her matches by falls (including a quarterfinal win in 18 seconds) before losing by fall in the title match to Avery Jensen of St. Francis.
Ileana Robles went 4-1 at 190 pounds to place third.
Robles lost her first match but won her next four, two by fall and the final by an 8-4 decision.
Luna Vazquez placed fourth at 105. The junior lost her first match but won two rounds in consolation before losing by fall in the third-place match.
Sara Peters went 2-2 at 130 pounds and Bianca Araiza was 1-2 at 145 pounds.
Some of the girls will compete in a Friday-Saturday meet in Great Bend, while others will compete in a meet in Ulysses Saturday.
