The girls basketball team made it four straight wins Friday night as they took down Stanton County 38-35 on the road.
The close game followed Tuesday’s lopsided 73-11 romp at Sublette, improving the Broncs to 2-0 in league play.
Lakin led 13-9 after one quarter but trailed the Trojans 21-19 at halftime.
The Broncs fell behind 31-24 with 2:25 to go in the third quarter but scored nine straight points to retake the lead 33-31.
Reagan Chavira started the comeback with a 3-pointer. Samantha Vogel added a free throw. Then Lileah Villa dribbled coast-to-coast for a layup to pull Lakin within a point.
Following a timeout, Chavira found Aryn Michaelis wide open in the corner for a 3-pointer and the lead.
Stanton County took the lead 35-34 with 5:45 to play, their final points of the game.
Just over a minute later, Villa hit a layup on a transition play.
The only scoring the rest of the game were single free throws by Villa at the 2-minute and the 38-second marks.
Lakin shot 26 percent from the floor compared to Stanton County’s 33 percent. The difference was at the free throw line where the Broncs shot 12 of 19 while the Trojans were just five of 10.
The Broncs won the rebound battle 31-27.
Villa led the team with eight points and Amari Esquibel had seven.
Jara Davidson had seven rebounds and three steals. Jordan McCombs had five steals.
The girls (4-2) are off for the holiday break. They will travel to Syracuse Jan. 5 and host Holcomb Jan. 9.
