Lakin girls get win at Cimarron

By LHSports

The girls basketball team finally got back at Cimarron with a 49-34 road win Friday night.

The last time the Broncs had beaten the Bluejays was in 2006. That was the girls second win of the week and moved their record to 10-5.

Leading 9-2 after the opening quarter, Lakin increased that to 26-15 at halftime.

They kept that same lead at 37-27 to end the third, then they used a 12-7 final quarter to cruise to the win.

Better shooting was the key for the Broncs as they shot 35 percent from the floor to the Bluejays’ 27 percent.

From 2-point range, the Broncs converted 18 field goals to Cimarron’s eight.

Both teams committed 28 turnovers, but Lakin had the edge, 20-13, on converting those turnovers into points.

The Broncs were dominant on the boards, grabbing 41 rebounds to Cimarron’s 26.

Jordan McCombs led the Broncs with 15 points, and Jara Davidson added 10.

Samantha Vogel chipped in eight points and Aryn Michaelis, who had 21 on Tuesday against Southwestern heights, finished with seven.

Michaelis had 10 rebounds and Davidson nine.

Amari Esquibel had four assists and Davidson had five steals.
