Girls compete in first swim meet

Two LHS students swimming with the Holcomb team competed in their first meet of the season Thursday in Marion.
Kinzie Berning-Lohman-Fuller and Marieke Van Der Knaap are members of the Holcomb High School team that practices at the Beymer Aquatic Center. They are part of a cooperative agreement with Holcomb, which also includes three girls from Ingalls.
Berning-Lohman-Fuller was part of the medley relay that placed seventh overall with a time of 2:25.95. The medley consists of all four strokes swam in one race by four individuals in a specific order.
She also swam the 200 freestyle relay (50-yard sprints each) with a team total time of 2:09.06, placing sixth.
Van Der Knaap was part of the 400 freestyle relay (each girl swimming 100 yards), which finished in ninth place with a time of 6:26.21
Individually the girls each swam the 50 freestyle sprint. Berning-Lohman-Fuller finished 15th overall, scoring points for the team, and Van Der Knaap finished 27th overall.
Van Der Knaap also swam the 100 breaststroke, placing 24th (2:09.22).
The team finished fourth overall with 260 points, behind Bishop Carrol (401), Marion (373) and Andover Central (271). They finished ahead of Buhler, El Dorado and Rose Hill.
