Softball falls to Hugoton

The softball team lost a pair of games at home Friday against Hugoton, 12-11 and 17-6.
In the first game, Hugoton scored on a walk-off single to get the win.
Moriah Ortiz homered twice in the game, including a grand slam. She drove in seven runs total.
Lakin took an 11-9 lead in the sixth inning, thanks to a triple from Lileah Villa and a hit-by-pitch for Julia Arreola.
Lakin had a 5-3 lead after one inning and a 9-7 lead after the top of the fifth before Hugoton tied it up in the bottom half.
Both teams had 14 hits, but Lakin committed eight errors to none for the Eagles, leading to six unearned runs.
Villa had two doubles to go with her triple.
Ortiz started the game, going 4.1 innings, striking out five and walking seven.
In the second game, Hugoton started the game with three runs in the first inning, followed by four runs in each of the next two innings.
Lakin scored all their runs in the fourth on three hits. Kinzie Berning-Lohman-Fuller plated a run with a single. Marieke Van Der Knapp drove in two with a single, and Elitza Fonseca drove in two with a double.
