Lakin qualifies at regional track

The Lakin track teams competed in the Class 3A regional meet Thursday.

The girls finished ninth as a team and qualified five entries to the state meet in Wichita Friday and Saturday.

The boys finished second and qualified 12 entries to state.

Colter Oldham picked up the title in discus, throwing 174-1. He also qualified in the shot put, finishing second (59-6).

Tyelor Holloway qualified in both hurdles events, finishing second in both the 110-meter and 300-meter races.

Alex Luce qualified in two events, finishing second in the 1600-meter run and fourth in the 800-meters.

Ross Rider qualified by taking second in the long jump and third in the triple jump. Quincy Esquibel finished fourth in the triple jump.

Austin Ritsema placed second in the high jump, clearing 6-0.

Lakin also qualified two relay teams. Both the 4x100 and 4x400 teams finished fourth.

Both relay teams are Maddux Beltran, Holloway, Rider and Armando Salcido.

The girls had two double qualifiers to state.

Sophomore Amari Esquibel finished second in the 100-meter dash (12.66 seconds) and third in the 200 (26.49).

Freshman Aryn Michaelis qualified by finishing fourth in the high jump (5-2) and fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.23).

Junior Alyssa Edgington cleared 10-6 to finish fourth in the pole vault.
