Track competes at state

The Broncs competed at the all-class state track and field meet in Wichita.
The boys finished just out of the team awards, placing fourth with 52 points. Wichita Collegiate was third with 53.
Holcomb won the title with 80n points and Topeka-Hayden was second with 61.
The boys were on the medal stand nine times from their 12 entries, and the girls made the stand four times of their five entries.
Colter Oldham won gold in the shot put and the discus (see separate story).
Friday
Long jump
Ross Rider made the medal stand when he placed seventh in the long jump.
The junior leaped 21-4 in his first attempt, which put him fifth going into the finals. The winning jump was 23-1.
High jump
Austin Ritsema placed fifth in the high jump, clearing 6-0.
The junior cleared the first two heights of 5-8 and 5-10 on one attempt. He missed his first attempt at 6-0 before clearing the bar on his second try.
Aryn Michaelis place fourth in the high jump. The freshman was one of five jumpers to clear 5-4.
Michaelis made opening height of 4-6 on her first attempt, then cleared 4-10 on her second. She repeated the sequence on her next two heights. The winning jump was 5-6.
Saturday
Pole vault
Alyssa Edgington finished tied for fifth in the pole vault.
The junior cleared 10-0 on her third attempt at that height.
Edgington passed on the first two heights (8-0 and 8-6). She made 9-0 on her first attempt and 9-6 on her second attempt.
Winning height in the pole vault was 12-8.
Triple jump
Rider climbed the awards stand for a second time, taking fourth in the triple jump. He leaped 43-9; winning distance was 46-1.
Quincy Esquibel finished 10th, jumping 40-10.5.
Hurdles
Tyelor Holloway claimed silver medals in both the 110-meter high hurdles and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.
The junior clocked in at 15.15 seconds in the 110s, behind Linkon Cure of Goodland’s 14.52.
In the 300 meters, Holloway finished in 39.86. Cure won the event in 38.90.
Michaelis placed seventh in the 110-meters, running in 16.53 seconds. Winning time was 14.99.
Running
Amari Esquibel finished fifth in the 100-meter dash. The sophomore clocked in at 12.88 seconds after qualifying eighth in the prelims. Winning time was 12.08.
Friday, Esquibel ran in the 200-meter prelims, finishing 10th and out of the finals by just .04 seconds.
Alex Luce finished fifth in the 1600-meter run, clocking in at 4:20.26. Winning time was 4:15.79.
Luce ran splits of 1:04.68, 1:05.52, and 1:07.75 before kicking the final lap in :51.49.
In the 800 meters, Luce finished out of the medals in 11th place, recording a 2:02.28 (winning time was 1:54.60).
Lakin had qualified two relay teams. The 4x100 team of Maddux Beltran, Holloway Armando Salcido and Rider finished eighth in 44.19 seconds (winning time was 42.36).
On Friday, the 4x400 team of Beltran, Salcido, Rider and Holloway finished 15th in prelims (3:38.96)
