Lakin leads in HPL Cup.
In its first season, the Hi-Plains League Cup competition boasts Lakin as the early leader. The Broncs lead the league schools with 50 points after the fall sports season, just ahead of Cimarron's 44.In third is Stanton County (38), fourth Southwestern Heights (34), fifth Elkhart (18), sixth Meade (18), seventh Syracuse (16), and eighth Sublette (20).
The Cup uses a point system for placing in league during each sport. First place counts for 16 points, second for 12, third for 10, fourth for 8 and so on.
Both boys and girls events are combined in this competition. At least half of the schools must have the sport in order for it to count. If teams tie for a place, they split the points.
Lakin picked up 16 points for winning volleyball, 12 points for runner-up finishes in football and boys cross country, and 10 points for third in girls cross country.
In the event of a tie for first place at the end of the school year, the number of first-place finishes will be the first tie-breaker, with head-to-head results in all competitions as the second tie-breaker.
The Cup will be presented to the winning school at the league track meet in the spring.
