Cross country runs at prestigious KU course

Varsity cross country runners took to the Rim Rock course in Lawrence Saturday, racing against top competition.
The state meet for Classes 3A, 5A and 6A will be run at the course Nov. 2.
Austin Ritsema was the winner in the Blue Varsity division, finishing the 5-kilometer course in 16:12.60.
Alex Luce was fourth in the field of 402 runners, racing in 16:19.60.
Other boys were Zael Bermudez (47th), Gabe Cox (130th), Blake Matthews (169th), Camden Bergkamp (250th) and Brennen Bless (272nd).
Of the 55 schools, Lakin finished in third with 318 points. Central Heights was first with 90 and Hutchinson Trinity second with 188.
The girls finished the Blue Varsity division in 33rd place out of 41 teams.
Claire Barnhart led the girls with a 62nd-place finish, running 22:28.10. Emma Miller was 119th (23:35.10).
Amari Esquibel was 167th, Shillelagh Kenter was 247th and Abby Holmes was 309th.
