Broncs take golden saddle

In Friday’s battle for the golden saddle, it was all Broncs as they won at home 64-0 over Southwestern Heights.
The Broncs scored five times in the opening quarter to take a 38-0 lead after just 12 minutes. They scored three more times before halftime and once more in the third period.
Colter Oldham scored the first three touchdowns on a 6-yard run. He ended the first quarter with a 27-yard interception for a score and opened the second period with another 6-yard score.
Ross Rider scored twice in the first quarter, once on a 28-yard run and again on a 28-yard reception from Dru Patterson.
Timmy Johnson returned a punt for a score in the opening period.
Armando Salcido scored from 76 yards in the second and Alex Robles scored from 13 yards out. Weston Loeppke scored from 20 yards out in the third.
Lakin ran five fewer plays than the Mustangs but out-gained Heights 400-43 on total yards, with 357 of those on the ground.
Lakin had 15 first downs to the Mustangs’ three, and the Broncs turned the ball over just one time while Heights turned it over five times, including two interceptions.
Loeppke was the team’s leading rush with 86 yards on nine carries. Salcido had 76 yards on one carry and Oldham had 75 on nine.
Patterson was 2-for-2 in the air for 43 yards.
Eli Bemis had one sack and three tackles for loss, while Rider led the team on eight tackles.
The Broncs are 4-1 (2-0 in district play) as they head on the road to Hoisington Friday and to Colby the following week.
