Keyton McCombs - Teacher Spotlight
Job Title: 2nd Grade Teacher
A little about Mrs. McCombs: I was born and raised in Lakin, Kansas, and graduated in 2011. I have two brothers, one older and one younger. After high school, I attended Barton Community College, where I earned my Associates Degree, before transferring to Fort Hays State University. There, I completed both my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and my Masters in High Incidence Special Education. Today, I have a family of my own, including my husband and two wonderful boys. I’m passionate about making a difference in the lives of children through education!
Years in Education/Experience: 9.5 years in education and at Lakin.
What do you like about teaching: What I love most about teaching is the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students' lives. It’s incredibly rewarding to help them grow, both academically and personally, and to see their confidence develop as they learn new skills.
Favorite teaching memories: My favorite teaching memory is the lasting relationships I've built with my students. It’s always so meaningful when they stop by my classroom just to say hello or give me a hug after moving on to the next grade level. I also cherish the moments when they recall specific memories from our time together, or when a student asks if I remember teaching them a particular topic—and I’m thrilled to hear that it left a lasting impression on them. I’m also grateful for the wonderful colleagues I work with, who create a supportive and collaborative environment that makes every day more fulfilling. And working with some of the teachers I had when I was a student at Lakin!
Words of Wisdom: Be kind, always smile, don’t be afraid to make mistakes, ask questions, always do your best, believe in yourself, help others, keep learning, have fun, and enjoy the journey!
