Leah King - Teacher Spotlight
Job Title: High School Art Teacher
A little bit about Mrs. King: I was born and raised in Trousdale, KS with my loving parents and younger brother. I went to HS at Macksville High School and graduated in 2003 after which I attended Fort Hays State University to major in Fine Arts and later a Bachelor in Education. I married my wonderful husband Kelly in 2011 and we live in Garden City with our cat Sheeva. I enjoy drawing, painting, creating things in clay, shelling Florida's beaches, hunting, fishing, watching movies, and writing fantasy stories.
Teaching Experience: Years in Ed at Lakin- 15 years (1st and only job in teaching I've had)
What I like about teaching: I love being able to see students enjoying what they are making and being passionate about something. I also love to see a student succeed after their practice and persistence pays off. Plus I get to make art with the students and get inspired so it's a win-win.
Favorite teaching memories: So many! From the students who earned medals and accolades for their artwork, seeing former students as adults with flourishing lives, and getting to participate and have fun with the various activities Lakin offers.
Words of Wisdom: A couple: "Creativity is just intelligence having fun." and "Practice waters and nurtures the seeds of success."
