Brianna Burns - Teacher Spotlight
Job Title: Kindergarten teacher
A little bit about Mrs. Burns: I was born and raised in Hays, KS. I am married to Coach Burns and we have 3 kids- Mya, Maverick and Maxton. If we are all doing something together as a family, it probably involves a gym or a field. I have a BA in Sociology from FHSU, BAE from Wichita State in Elementary Education, ESOL certification from Newman and currently working on my Master's in Curriculum and Instruction at FHSU.
Teaching Experience: This is my 7th year in education and my first year here at Lakin. I started my teaching career in Kismet, where I taught 1st grade for two years and then moved to kindergarten and have been there ever since! Kindergarten is my absolute favorite- it is where all the magic happens! It is also the most rewarding because they come in as blank slates and leave nine short months later reading, writing, spelling, adding and subtracting!
I love teaching- I love the kids, the relationships that are built, the belly laughs daily, the moments when the light bulb goes off because they have made connections to something I have been teaching, the fun we have, the little family we build over nine short months. It is not always the easiest job, but it is by far the most rewarding job to watch 5 and 6 year olds learn and grow! We might do the same things everyday, but there is never a dull moment in kindergarten!
Favorite Memories: are anytime we have a "special" day or a party day. The kids are just so full of joy and excitement! Also, the beginning of the day when they walk in and say "good morning" and the end of the day when they give the biggest squeezes before they leave are high on the list!
Words of Wisdom: Learning is one of the greatest gifts, so be curious and ask questions- mistakes are how we learn. You might not know it yet, but you can do hard things! Strive to be better than you were the day before. Always be kind and celebrate each other! I will always be your biggest cheerleader even after kindergarten, I love you and I am proud of you!
