Ricki Mead - Teacher Spotlight
Job Title: High School Science
A Little bit about Mrs. Mead: I was born and raised in Lakin. I returned to Lakin in 2016 after living in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado for about 20 years. I have a bachelor's degree in psychology and a bachelor's degree in biology. I have one daughter, Alli, who is a junior at Washburn University studying Forensic Investigations/Crime Scene Investigation.
Years in Education: I began as a substitute in Lakin and Deerfield in 2016, became a para at the middle school in 2018, and last year I started teaching Science at LHS.
What do you like about teaching: I really enjoy interacting with the students and getting to know them.
Favorite Teaching Memory: Blowing up pumpkins last year for Halloween. Another would be receiving an email earlier this year from a former foreign exchange student. She told me she was studying some of the chemistry that we learned last year and said it was easy because she already knew it from my class.
Words of Wisdom: Accepting mediocrity isn't truly acceptable.
