Girls drop close game at Meade
The girls basketball team came within four seconds of a win at Meade last Monday, but two late free throws by the Buffaloes gave Meade a 65-64 win.
In a makeup game on the road, the girls trailed 61-52 in the fourth period. But the Broncs went on a 12-2 run to take the lead at 64-63.
But Meade went to the line for two free throws with :04 left on the clock and swished both to get the win.
Meade led 17-16 after one period but a 20-15 second quarter gave the Broncs a 36-32 halftime lead.
Lakin shot 43 percent from the floor (23 of 54) while Meade shot 52 percent (27 of 52).
The Broncs were 8 of 16 from behind the arc and 12 of 16 from the free throw line. Meade was 2 of 8 and 11 of 15 from the line.
Meade won the boards with 32 rebounds to Lakin’s 26.
Jaya Esquivel led the Broncs with 24 points, including four 3-pointers.
Tiana Gonzalez had 12 points, while Ryan Rider and Taegan Bachman both had 11.
Gonzalez had six rebounds, while Rider and Esquivel both had four steals.
Esquibel had seven steals.
