Boys take care of Elkhart
The boys basketball team made it three straight wins with an 82-59 victory over Elkhart at home Tuesday.
The Broncs led by five after the opening quarter and took a 39-26 lead at halftime.
The Wildcats cut that to 54-48 at the end of three, but a 28-11 final period pushed Lakin to the win.
The Broncs were 44 percent from the floor, including 11 of 25 from behind the arc.
The Wildcats shot 50 percent.
Lakin outscored Elkhart at the line (21 of 32 versus 8 of 25).
The Broncs' defense forced 22 turnovers, leading to 37 points. They committed just 10 turnovers, accounting for just 10 of Elkhart's points.
Elkhart held a 33-30 edge on the boards.
Sonnie Altman led the team with 20 points. When he scored his 14th point, it gave him 1,000 for his career, with three seasons played for Wichita County.
Hunter Davis had had 17 points, despite picking up four fouls in the first half.
Jace Bachman and Jaylyn Hash added 12 points each.
Dom Daniels led the team with six boards and Davis led with three assists.
