Wrestlers qualify one for state
At the Class 3-2-1A wrestling regional in Norton last weekend, the Lakin squad qualified one to this week’s state tournament in Hays.
Kade Lovely finished second at 152 pounds to represent the Broncs.
The junior (15-16 for the season) won his first round on Friday, a 6-5 decision over Brady Keith of Hill City.
In the quarterfinals, Lovelady got a 9-7 win in sudden victory over Trey Grismore of Phillipsburg, advancing him to the semifinals, where he advanced to the finals when Kyan Ensign of Goodland forfeited due to injury.
In the finals, Lovelady lost to top-seeded Aidan Baalman (40-3) by fall (2:47).
At 113, senior Nathan Reimer went 0-2.
At 126, freshman Bly Gosch lost his opening match but came back in the consolation round with two wins by fall (4:58 and 2:36) before falling in the quarterfinals in a 12-6 decision.
At 160, freshman Daryan Edgington lost both of his matches.
At 182, senior Kayden Christiansen (23-9) won his opening round by fall (:40) but lost a 2-1 decision to Brell Spiess of Smith Center.
Christiansen picked up a falls (1:34 and 2:54) in consolation.
Win the semifinals, he lost a 2-1 decision to Rylan Basart of Stockton.
At 220, sophomore Omar Gonzalez won by fall (3:08) in his first round but lost by fall (3:32) in the quarterfinals.
He picked a quick fall (:29) in consolation before losing to Jakob Sasse of Smith Center by fall (2:23).
