Boys take HPL tourney title

The Broncs boys took home the title at the Hi-Plains League tournament Saturday with a 73-43 win over Stanton County at the GCCC gym.
It was the 11th title since 2000 in this tournament and 15th overall since its inception for the Broncs.
Lakin jumped out to a 20-11 lead after one period and 39-21 by halftime to cruise to the win.
Lakin shot 41 percent from the floor (including five 3-pointers) and out rebounded the Trojans 38-32.
The Broncs capitalized on Stanton County’s 24 turnovers, converting those into 26 points.
Nico Doume led all scorers with 26 points and Tyelor Holloway 11.
Austin Ritsema, Adrik Gomez-Esquibel and Holloway had six rebounds each. Holloway also had six assists.
Friday semifinal
Lakin 77, Sublette 45
In Friday’s semifinal, the top-seeded Broncs cruised in the second half to a 77-45 win over Sublette.
Leading 38-31 at halftime, Lakin outscored the Larks 26-5 in the third to secure the win.
The Broncs shot 45 percent from the floor, including10 of 30 from 3-point range. They also held the edge in second-chance points (16-6) and turnovers (22-13).
Lakin out rebounded the Larks 38-35.
Ritsema and Noah Garcia led the team with 15 points each. Gomez-Esquibel had 12, Colter Oldham 11 and Doume 10.
Gomez-Esquibel had seven assists and Holloway and Garcia both had three steals.
Ritsema had eight rebounds and Doume seven.
Tuesday Round 1
Lakin 95, Wichita 30
In the opening round Tuesday in Syracuse, Lakin set a record for most points scored with a 95-30 rout of Wichita County.
The Broncs outscored the Indians 25-4 in the first quarter and 25-7 in the second, then poured it on in a 30-9 third.
Lakin shot 51 percent from the floor (28 2-pointers and 12-of-34 from beyond the arc).
In transition, the Broncs outscored Wichita County 37-4. Off turnovers, they outscored the Indians 43-6 after forcing 35 miscues.
In the paint, the Broncs won that battle 56-20.
Doume and Dru Patterson led the Broncs with 20 points each. Garcia had 13 and Ritsema 10. Patterson hit for six 3-pointers.
Doume had 10 boards and Ritsema nine.
Gomez-Esquibel had six assists and Doume five, and Ritsema led the team with four steals.
