Girls get win over Trojans

It was a game of highs and lows Monday as Lakin prevailed over Stanton County 52-41 in a game moved up one day due to weather.
Lakin took an 8-0 lead in front of the home crowd and looked to be in control. Then the Trojans went on a 16-4 run to end the period with a 4-point lead.
Leading 27-18 at halftime, the Trojans relied on Avery Scott to score all of the team’s seven third-quarter points as they took a 29-18 lead.
Trailing 34-30 entering the final period, the Broncs caught fire again, taking the lead at 35-34, outscoring the Trojans 22-7 in that quarter, and getting the win.
Lakin hit 38 percent from the floor to the Trojans’ 31 percent. Both teams made 15 two-pointers, and Stanton County had the game’s only 3-pointer.
The difference came at the free throw line, where Lakin was 22 of 27 and Stanton County was 8 of 12.
The Trojans out rebounded Lakin 28-27.
Lileah Villa led the Broncs with 23 points and Jordan McCombs added 10.
McCombs had nine rebounds and three assists. Villa had three steals.
