Girls fall to No. 3 Indians

In a close contest, Lakin’s girls lost at Wichita County Thursday 56-48.
Wichita County (19-1), the state’s third-ranked team in Class 2A, were down 15-11 after the first quarter but led the Broncs 28-22 at halftime.
Lakin tied the game twice in the third period and once in the final period at 41-all.
Both teams shot just under 40 percent, with the Indians hitting for six 3-pointers to Lakin’s one. Lakin was 13 for 17 at the free throw line, while Wichita County was 8 for 18.
Lakin’s 27 turnovers led to 24 Indians points, while Lakin had 11 points off 16 turnovers.
Lakin led in rebounding, 34-30.
Lileah Villa and Aryn Michaelis both had 16 points. Villa had three assists and three steals and Michaelis had four steals and 12 rebounds.
