Boys end regular season with senior night win

The boys basketball team ended the regular season at home Friday night with an 88-28 win over Deerfield on senior night.

The win propelled the Broncs to a 19-1 record, including a 17-game winning streak as they head into the postseason.

Lakin started with a 27-11 opening quarter and increased the lead to 57-19 by halftime. A 26-5 third period gave the Broncs an 83-24 lead.

Jordan Peregrino earned the pressMENTALITY belt for his 3-point goal at the end of the third period from the corner.

The Broncs converted 18 2-point shots and 17 from 3-point ranged, going 35 for 70 from the floor. Deerfield shot 29 percent.

The Broncs outscored the Spartans 33-8 off turnovers and 28-6 on transition points.

Lakin outscored Deerfield 21-2 on second chance points and 36-16 inside the paint.

Lakin won the rebounding, 43-22.

Dru Patterson led the Broncs with 23 points and Noah Garcia added 22. Austin Ritsema had 13.

Garcia and Nico Doume led the team with six rebounds each. Adrik Gomez-Esquibel had five assists and four steals.

Lakin (19-1) will host Nickerson (2-18) Friday in the opening round of sub-state.

Presuming the Broncs win, they will host the winner of Southwestern Heights (11-9) and Hoisington (10-9) on March 5.
