Boys advance in substate

The top-seeded Lakin Broncs made a statement in their opening round of the substate tournament with an 87-28 win at home Friday against Nickerson.
Leading the Panthers 21-11 after the first quarter, Lakin poured it on in the second 21-7 and again in the third 30-6 to pull away for the easy win.
The Broncs hit 52 percent of their shots, including 14 of 33 from beyond the arc. Nickerson converted just 26 percent of its total shots (10 of 39).
The Broncs outscored Nickerson 20-4 on transition points, 31-2 off turnovers, 10-0 on second-chance points, and 38-10 in the paint.
Lakin dominated the boards, grabbing 37 rebounds to Nickerson’s 28.
Four Broncs scored in double figures, including 15 each by Noah Garcia, Austin Ritsema and Nico Doume, as well as 12 from Tyelor Holloway.
Ritsema and Doume both had eight rebounds.
Adrik Gomez-Esquibel and Doume both had three assists.
The Broncs (20-1) have now won 18 straight games.
