Game Goes Down To The Wire As Lakin Varsity Broncs Loses To Colby On Final Play

Lakin Varsity Broncs fell to Colby 11-10 on Friday on the final play of the game. The game was tied at 10 in the bottom of the ninth when Jalyssa Sabatka singled, scoring one run.
Despite the loss, Lakin Varsity Broncs did collect nine hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Colby had 12 hits on the way to victory.
Colby jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after an error scored three runs, and Madison Hull drew a walk, scoring one run.
Colby added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Ryler Carter doubled down the left field line, and Lakin Varsity Broncs committed an error, each scoring one run.
Lakin Varsity Broncs took the lead, 9-8, in the top of the seventh thanks to singles by Lileah Villa, and Elitza Fonseca.
Maddie McCarty singled down the left field line on the sixth pitch of the at-bat, which helped Colby tie the game at nine in the bottom of the seventh.
Lakin Varsity Broncs took the lead in the top of the eighth. Sara Martinez laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run, to give Lakin Varsity Broncs the leg up, 10-9.
Lakin Varsity Broncs committed an error, which helped Colby tie the game at 10 in the bottom of the eighth.
Carter earned the win for Colby. The starting pitcher surrendered nine hits and 10 runs (eight earned) over nine innings, striking out 13 and walking four. Moriah Ortiz took the loss for Lakin Varsity Broncs. The pitcher went eight and one-third innings, giving up 11 runs (three earned) on 12 hits, striking out eight and walking eight.
Villa and Sarah Peters each collected two hits for Lakin Varsity Broncs. Villa, Fonseca, and Julia Arreola each drove in two runs for Lakin Varsity Broncs. Luna Vazquez, Villa, and Taegan Oldham each stole multiple bases for Lakin Varsity Broncs. Lakin Varsity Broncs stole 12 bases in the game.
Colby tallied 12 hits in the game. Sabatka and Carter were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for Colby while hitting back-to-back. Sadie Cheney provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Colby with four runs batted in. The outfielder went 2-for-5 on the day. McCarty paced Colby with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game. McCarty stole two bases. Colby stole five bases in the game.

Strong Hitting Not Enough As Lakin Varsity Broncs Falls To Colby

Lakin Varsity Broncs fell 13-12 to Colby on Friday despite out-hitting them 15 to 13. Lileah Villa led Lakin Varsity Broncs with three hits.
Lakin Varsity Broncs fell behind by six runs in the fourth inning, but then tried to fight back. Lakin Varsity Broncs closed the gap by scoring on a walk, a walk, a triple, a single, a double, an error, an error, and a double.
Colby got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Jalyssa Sabatka tripled down the left field line, Sadie Cheney singled down the left field line, and Colby scored on a passed ball, each scoring one run.
Colby added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Kenlie Miller singled to center field, and Sabatka doubled down the left field line, each scoring one run.
Lakin Varsity Broncs scored five runs on four hits in the top of the fifth inning. Elitza Fonseca drew a walk, scoring one run, Taegan Oldham drew a walk, scoring one run, Julia Arreola tripled, scoring two runs, and Sarah Peters singled, scoring one run.
Lakin Varsity Broncs tied the game in the top of the seventh thanks to a double by Oldham, an error, an error, and a double by Villa.
Karli Hills earned the win for Colby. The pitcher gave up 15 hits and 12 runs (seven earned) over seven innings, striking out eight and walking three. Moriah Ortiz took the loss for Lakin Varsity Broncs. The hurler went three and two-thirds innings, surrendering eight runs (two earned) on three hits, striking out three and walking three.
Lakin Varsity Broncs accumulated 15 hits in the game. Villa and Arreola each drove in two runs for Lakin Varsity Broncs. Oldham and Peters each collected multiple hits for Lakin Varsity Broncs. Peters stole two bases. Lakin Varsity Broncs stole nine bases in the game.

Cheney, Maddie McCarty, and Kleinsorge each stole multiple bases for Colby. Colby ran wild on the base paths, accumulating 10 stolen bases for the game.
Lakin Varsity Broncs will travel to Stanton County for their next game on Monday.
