Softball splits with Trojans

The softball team picked up their first win of the season last Monday, winning the second game of a doubleheader at Stanton County 12-11 after dropping the first game 7-5.
With the win, the Broncs improved to 1-3.
The Broncs scored the winning run in the top of the ninth when Julia Arreola stole home..
Lakin led 3-0 in the first but trailed 8-3 after the Trojans scored on five hits, including an inside-the-park home run in the first.
Paityn Ansel’s double in the sixth tied the game at 10-10, and Sarah Peters’ single gave the Broncs an 11-10 lead in the top of the eighth.
Moriah Ortiz earned the win, giving up seven hits and three runs (two earned) over eight innings, striking out 12 and walking five.
Lileah Villa, Atlantis Hernandez and Arreola each collected two hits.
Latin walked 13 times and stole 25 bases.
In the 7-5 opening loss, Lakin out-hit the Trojans 10-6.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the second, Hernandez doubled to left to drive in a run.
Down 4-1 in the top of the fourth, Elitza Fonseca drove in a run on a single and Ortiz hit a solo home run to left.
Lakin trailed 7-3 in the top of the seventh. Taegan Oldham scored on an Arreola double, and Arreola scored on a Taybree Lohman-fuller single.
Ortiz took the loss, pitching six innings, allowing seven runs (four earned) on six hits, striking out five and walking six.
Villa led the Broncs with three hits.
