Baseball sweeps Elkhart

The baseball team made a field dedication a special day with a pair of wins over visiting Elkhart Tuesday, 7-0 and 6-1.

The field was named Steve Davidson Field at Loucks Park in honor of the only coach the Broncs program had until he retired last year.

In the first game, Lakin scored two runs in the first and third innings and three in the fifth.

They out-hit the Wildcats 9-5. Enrique Ortega had three hits as a designated hitter, while Eli Bemis and Dru Patterson each had two.

Patterson led the team with three runs batted in and Bemis had two.

Gabe Cox and Patterson both had a pair of stolen bases.

Patterson pitched a complete game, scattering five hits over seven innings, striking out 12 and walking just one.

Of Patterson’s 92 pitches, 65 were strikes.

In game two, Lakin picked up seven hits and took advantage of four Wildcat errors to get the win.

The Browns scored three times in the second inning and three more in the fourth, allowing just one run in the fourth.

Cox, Ortega and Angel Davila each had two hits for Lakin.

Armando Salcido had two of Lakin’s seven stolen bases.

Eli Bemis pitched four innings, allowing the one earned run and two hits, striking out six and walking none.

Salcido pitched three innings, giving up no hits while striking out five.
