Softball splits with Haskell County

The softball team came back from Easter break with a split at Haskell County Monday, winning the first game 9-3 but falling in the second 9-8.

In game one, the Broncs scored twice in each of the first two innings and never trailed. Three runs in the seventh sealed the win.

Lakin took advantage of five HC errors and seven stolen bases.

Lakin got two hits each from Luna Vazquez, Julia Arreola (including a triple), Moriah Ortiz (including a double) and Lileah Villa.

Vazquez and Villa both had a pair of steals.

Ortiz pitched all seven innings, scattering seven its, striking out 10 and walking two.

In game two, the Broncs committed 10 errors in the 9-8 loss.

Lakin took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second but gave up three runs in the bottom of the second. They scored three times in the fourth but gave up two in the bottom of the inning.

Leading 8-7 going into the bottom of the seventh, the Broncs gave up two runs and got the loss.

A number of girls got one hit each, with Sara Martinez, Sarah Peters and Taegan Oldham collecting doubles. Oldham batted in two runs.

Vazquez stole three bases.

Ortiz went the distance, giving up eight hits and nine runs (only two earned). She struck out 12 and walked four.
