Just hours after being voted the top spot in the state Class 3A division, the Broncs went out and proved it with a home 70-47 win over Scott City last Tuesday.
The win improved their record to 16-0.
Leading just 10-6 after one period, Lakin scored the final 14 points of the half to take a 33-14 lead at intermission.
The boys had 26 points off 18 turnovers while the Beavers had just seven points on 10 Lakin turnovers.
The Broncs had a total of nine steals and deflections.
The leading scorer was Hunter Davis with 22 points, who also led in assists with five and rebounds with seven.
In the fourth quarter, Davis scored his 1000th career point.
Servando Gonzalez had a total of 18 points followed by Allen Martinez with 17.
Jace Bachman led the team with a total of three steals for the Broncs.
JV Scott City 78, Lakin 56
Scott City scored 25 points in both the first and fourth quarters as they handled the JV boys 78-56.
The Beavers led 25-9 after the first period but just 35-25 by halftime as the Broncs outscored Scott City 21-20.
Aron Pinter hit six 3-pointers in leading the Broncs with 20 points. Maddux Beltran had 15 points and Matt Morgan seven.
The Broncs were just 7 of 22 from the free throw line in suffering just their second loss of the season.
