The cross country teams traveled to Hays-TMP Saturday to open their season.
Top finisher for Lakin was Lawson Beymer, the defending regional champion. The junior won the upper high school division in 17:51, running an average pace of 5:44 per mile.
Leo Shelden finished 20th (22:01), Pablo Arreola 22nd (223:36) helped lead the junior-senior boys.
Also racing in the upper division were Jose Acosta (27th), Anthony Ornelas (28th), Josue Peraza (31st) and Tristen Cox (36th).
In the junior-senior boys team division, Lakin finished second with 48 points. Hutch-Trinity won with 21.
In the junior-senior girls division, Jordan Ortiz, Lakin’s lone state runner last season, finished third (24:06) and Anne Sophie Van Der Knaap sixth (25:14).
Maile White finished third in the freshman-sophomore division, running in 24:03.
Halle Woodrow was 17th and Kayleen Tanner 19th.
In the freshman-sophomore boys division, Austin Ritsema placed fifth to lead the team, running 20:47.
Gabe Cox was 18th, Eric Munson 20th, Dru Patterson 28th, and Chris Ortiz 37th.
Freshman-sophomore boys finished fourth as a team with 64 points.
Cimarron placed first (43), Hutch-Trinity second (46) and TMP third (61).
The team will travel to Tribune Saturday and to Hugoton the following Saturday.
