The varsity cross country teams competed at the Canon City High School invitational last Thursday at the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park.
The boys finished 10th and the girls 9th, competing among large and small schools from Colorado and Kansas.
Top runner for the boys was sophomore Austiin Ritsema, who placed 15th in 17;47.60.
Leo Shelden (54th), Jose Acosta (72), Camden Bergkamp (73) and Isaac Jaquez (79) were the other four scoring runners, with Tyelor Holloway and Eric Munson also competing.
Jordan Ortiz was the top finisher for the Lakin girls. She placed 29th, running 23:34.22.
Maile White (42nd), Anne Sophie Van Der Knaap (46), Josia Ortiz (60), and Ivy Davis (70) rounded out the other four scorers, with Abby Holmes and Elina Helwich also competing.
Next up for the Lakin team is their home meet Saturday. Middle school races begin at 9 a.m.
